How to determine your proper frame size?
To determine your proper frame size, youll
first need to measure your inseam. This measurement should be made
with someone assisting you to ensure accuracy.
Inseam Measurement (measurement i)
1. Be sure to take this measurement standing straight up on a hard
surface, in bare or stocking feet, with your feet 4" apart
and with your weight evenly distributed. This measurement is most
comfortably taken while wearing your riding shorts
2. Measure a vertical line from the base
of the pubic symphysis to the floor. Placing a book or suitable
object in the crotch area and exerting a slight upward force will
provide proper reference.
3. Ensure the tape is absolutely perpendicular
to the floor, running straight down from the upper edge of the book
to the floor.
4. Repeat measurement three times, for consistency,
and average the results to get your inseam length.
5. With the inseam length, use the following
formula to calculate your optimal fit frame size:
Inseam * 0.67 - 4.2
Round the calculated result to the closest
frame size available for the respective Exodus model you are purchasing.
How
to determine the proper upper body fit?
Torso length and arm length when considered
together is the best indicator for the proper top tube length and
handlebar stem length necessary to achieve an efficient and comfortable
upper body position for bicycling. The result of these measurements
and subsequent calculations will validate the frame size determined
in step one, in addition to providing a realistic determination
of the stem extension that should be used with the frame. These
measurements should be made with someone assisting you to ensure
accuracy.
A. Torso Measurement (measurement t)
1. Be sure to take this measurement standing straight up with your
feet 4" apart. This measurement is most comfortably taken while
wearing your riding shorts.
2. Locate the "sternal
notch" (the V-shaped notch between the collarbones).
3. Measure a vertical line from
the base of the sternal notch to the base of the pubic symphysis
referenced by placing a book in the crotch and exerting a slight
upward force.
4. Ensure the tape is absolutely
perpendicular to the floor, running straight down from the base
of the sternal notch to the top of the book.
5. Repeat measurement three times, for consistency, and average
the results to get your torso measurement.
B.
Arm Extension (measurement a)
1. Be sure to take this measurement standing straight up.
2. With your arm outstretched and your thumb
pointing up, locate the center of the bottom knuckle of your thumb.
This reference is the knuckle closet to the web between the thumb
and forefinger of your hand.
3. Measure the distance from the center of
the knuckle to the inner wall of your armpit preferably touching
your rib cage.
4. Repeat measurement three times, for consistency,
and
average the results to get your arm extension.
With t and a, the following formula determines
the proper stem extension for you:
((a + t)/2 + 3.15) - Effective Top Tube Length
(in inches)
